Veteran Medical Device Executive to Guide Commercialization Effort of Novel Drug-Delivery Systems
SAN LEANDRO, Calif., April 14, 2014 — Mercator MedSystems, Inc., a privately-held developer of innovative catheter-guided micro-infusion systems for targeted delivery of drugs and biologics, today announced that its Board of Directors has appointed veteran medical device executive Trent Reutiman as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board, effective immediately. Reutiman most recently was Vice President, Global Commercial Operations at IDEV Technologies, Inc., which was acquired by Abbott Laboratories for $310 million in 2013.
Reutiman, 49, has 25 years of commercial experience in the medical device field, including leadership positions in sales and marketing. He has significant expertise in commercializing products for minimally invasive interventional procedures, and participated in the development of many new technologies.
"We are excited to have Trent join us at this important time for Mercator and lead the further development and commercialization of our products, which aim to improve the clinical efficacy and economic efficiency of traditional procedures," said Ned Sheetz of Aphelion Capital, an investor and member of the Mercator Board of Directors. "Trent's proven background in developing and launching interventional products will help guide our rationale for novel strategies. Mercator and our growing clinical community stand to greatly benefit from his first hand expertise and his addition to our team."
Reutiman worked at IDEV Technologies, based in Webster, TX, from April 2012 to March 2014. Prior to that, from November 2006 to January 2012, he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ROX Medical, Inc., based in San Clemente, CA.
"Mercator is developing the next medical advancements in targeted drug delivery at a time when physicians are demonstrating a strong interest in using localized adjunct drug treatments," said Reutiman. "I'm attracted to Mercator by the same combination of novel technology and room for a differentiated approach in the marketplace that made IDEV such a compelling investment opportunity and interesting place to work. And like IDEV, Mercator is focused on peripheral vascular medical technology, among other therapeutic opportunities, which has become a significant area for innovation in modern healthcare."
From March 2000 to December 2005 he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing at RITA Medical Systems, based in Mountain View, CA. Before that Reutiman held sales management and representation positions at Guidant Corporation and Cordis Corporation.
Reutiman, a resident of Mill Valley, CA, has a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Colorado State University and an MBA from UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business.
